Come dance with us in Hove on Friday evenings. There is no need to book: just turn up by 6.30pm and pay cash on the door.
Let’s join together to celebrate life and our innate potential. Each Friday we move together in devotion to our inner selves, in a group practice that honours and welcomes all. A non-verbal movement practice that allows one to be more present with what is, to express through movement what needs to be expressed, to transform, and to find some form of completion in the dance.
Please bring your willingness to move, some layered clothes that allow you to sweat, and to keep warm, and a bottle of water so you stay hydrated. Please leave your words and devices outside the space. This is a substance-free space (no drugs, no alcohol).
Doors will usually be open ten minutes before the official start time to allow you time to settle in and arrive comfortably. The structure of each class is a warmup followed by the five rhythms of the wave: flowing, grounded in the feet; staccato, grounded in the hips; chaos, letting go of the head; lyrical, where the dance extends out through the hands into the wider space; stillness, where we don’t stop moving but we’re moved by the breath. Beginners are welcome, as are experienced dancers. There is nothing to get right or wrong, just come with an openness to let the music be your guide and your teacher.
Payment: Cash preferred, but we can take bank transfers on the door, or card payments (subject to a small handling fee) if you prefer. £18 general admission, £15 concession, £12 student/not working.
This class is usually held by Paul; on occasion we invite other excellent teachers including my fabulous colleagues Catherine Bessin and Judit Juhasz from London. You can see their information in the “About” pages of this website.
