When I began dancing the 5Rhythms®, well over two decades ago, it didn’t take long for it to become a central part of my life; attending classes regularly, I was always hungry for more of what this dance gave me, the sense of community, the freedom of expression, the presence of being, and the music.
Originally trained as a graphic artist, I’m also a musician and lifelong meditator. I was a DJ for spiritual events and ecstatic dance parties since the early 2000s, but the core of my practice has been to dance the 5Rhythms - beginning just after the millenium. The first regular class I attended was in North London, where Sue Rickards has held space for some 30+ years. I danced there in Sue’s class twice a week for fifteen of those years, before I moved to Brighton. Aside from Sue, teachers of mine include Gabrielle Roth, the founder of 5Rhythms; for many years her son Jonathan Horan, who leads the teacher training that I joined; Brighton-area stalwarts Alain Allard and Sarah Pitchford; Silvija Tomcik; Cathy Ryan; and countless others.

Music and Dance are my life-long passions. Life’s mystery, energy, the body, movement, nature, the cosmos have always fascinated me. My journey has been one of re-connecting with our ability to heal and transform through various practises involving movement and energy work. The 5Rhythms® is the most powerful medicine I have encountered and has led me on a wonderful, life-saving, transformative and healing journey.
The practice teaches us embodiment, it grounds us, out of our overactivated minds, it enables us to feel our emotions, to surrender to our body’s innate intelligence, to the power of our intuitive knowing, to feel what’s moving inside or not, and what wants to move. It guides us to be present with the moment, with our truth, with every breath, and with what’s moving around us, and it makes us aware of the sacred relationship between our moving centre and our connectedness with others, with source and with all that is.

I am a passionate dancer and I love shaping my inner world through movement. I am in my element when I am able to trace what is alive in me and allow my body to express it and find precise movements that best describes my experience.
Meeting the dancefloor felt like coming home: recalling my teenage years - cranking up the volume and dancing my insides out - just like in my bedroom.

About the 5Rhythms
ABOUT THE 5RHYTHMS
Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free. Creativity. Connection. Community.
